Housewide Wi-Fi Networks & Data Infrastructure

Almost any piece of technology you install in your home today is network enabled. That means it can update its own software and deliver new services – if it can connect to the internet.

Even within your home, your AV technology needs to communicate. Whether through Wi-Fi, Bluetooth or cabled connections, if you are to enjoy music or video throughout your home, your data network must be up to the task.

That means a well planned and carefully designed data infrastructure is essential in any modern residential or commercial development. West London AV Solutions can help you from the earliest stages of the project to ensure your AV installation – and the data network that supports it – form an integral part of your architect’s and builder’s plans.

What is a Wi-Fi System?

Wi-Fi is the name of a popular wireless networking technology that uses radio waves to provide wireless high-speed Internet and network connections. Wi-Fi allows you to connect several computers at once, anywhere in the house – or if you have a laptop, to even use your computer in the garden. You don’t need to install extra phone lines or cables.

Wi-Fi creates a network in your home – a little zone where computers can get broadband internet. It uses radio waves, just like TV or mobile phones. You may sometimes hear this zone referred to as a WLAN (Wireless Local Area Network).

A device called a wireless transmitter receives information from the internet via your broadband connection. The transmitter converts the information into a radio signal and sends it.

You could think of the transmitter as a mini radio station, broadcasting signals sent from the internet. The ‘audience’ for these transmissions is the computer (or computers, as more than one can connect at the same time) which receives the radio signal via something called a wireless adapter.

Want Wi-Fi but have no cables?

Using the ‘Smart-Meshing’ feature provided by Ruckus it is possible for us to provide a Wi-Fi system which has access points in locations where there are no data cables. All that is required is one physical access point connected to the router and the other access points can be strategically positioned across the house connected with a power supply only.

We would then suggest Ruckus Unleashed access points either R500 or R600 models which will provide you with complete coverage across your property. The Unleashed system has a integrated WLAN management interface which provides us with many configuration possibilities.

Choosing the best internet provider

We are often contacted by clients who are struggling with their incoming and wireless internet speeds. The first step to assisting these clients is to identify who their internet provider is and whether they are receiving the fastest service available at their property.

We will conduct a review as to which providers are available in your area and determine whether you are in a FTTC (fibre to the cabinet) area or a standard ADSL area. We have a long term relationship with a telecommunications company who can assist with placing new orders for phone lines and internet services. This bypasses the need to communicate with traditional consumer suppliers which often incurs time and inconvenience when things do not go to plan.

If you are in a low speed area then we can also obtain proposals for private fibre services. This would be a service which is uncontended or shared with any other customers on the network. It is a fibre connection pulled directly in to the property and you can achieve speeds of 100MB up and down and higher if needed.
